Robyn Caughlan, leading Indigenous Artist, Fashion Designer, Author .....

Among her creative achievements, Robyn has designed FOUR National Costumes for Australian contestants in the Miss Universe pageants.

In 1996 her Miss Universe gown was purchased by the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney for its permanent collection. This gown was worn in Las Vegas by Australian entrant Jodi McMullen; with her 1995 frilled neck lizard design entry, worn by Jaqueline Shooter became one of her most well-known.

A second Robyn Caughlan gown, a wedding dress, was also purchased by the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney for its permanent collection.

In 1998 and 1999, Robyn Caughlan and Sharon Davson contributed original garments for the Great Australian Fashion Show tours in Egypt.

Robyn has won places in competitions such as the Deadliest Dressed competition and has had her work shown in places like New York, Milan and Egypt.

Work by Robyn is in the collections of former Prine Minister Bob Hawke, TV host Sonia Kruger and Linda Burnie. She's painted Hugh Jackman's, Barry Humphrey's and Shirley Bassey's kicks (to name a few) to raise money for Jeans for Genes. As a cancer survivor, she's created a number of Arty Bra pieces to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

Robyn has successfully continued her Australian and international career, with art exhibitions, fashion events and now a book publication, 'Waiting at the Gate', which details her journey from despair to success. Davson ~ Points of View in the green room

This exhibition of Sharon Davson's art features the Preliminary Working image for the Points of View painting which recently re-sold for $5.2 million.  

This working image gives insight into the artist's practice.  It is on loan from the Anthony Lawder Superanuation Fund.

Davson ~ towards harmony featured a collection of 23 works on paper by Davson (created 1972 - 2010). These works on paper were kindly loaned from the permanent public collection of the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre in Muswellbrook, NSW. Accompanying the exhibition were 6 oil-on-canvas paintings by Davson borrowed from various collectors.

Opened on 17 November 2010 as the main feature of the Davson Arts Museum's end of year festive-season events, Brad Franks, Arts Centre Manager, Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre in Muswellbrook, NSW attended as Guest Speaker.

The exhibition pieces loaned from the permanent public collection of the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre in Muswellbrook, New South Wales included drawings, original silk-screen prints, etchings, mono prints and spatter works from early in the artist's career, as well one woven piece and a preliminary concept drawing.

This exhibition offered a rare opportunity for Newcastle residents to view Davson’s iconic painting Turning Point created in 2000. Commissioned by the Hon. Pat Farmer, Turning Point represents the flagship image for his incredible Pole to Pole run and Davson’s sponsorship involvement.

Other paintings on loan from collectors included Is Anyone Listenin g and four pieces from the With Gratitude series; Passing Memories, A Precious Find, When All Is Quiet and Traditions.

Fungai series,
is a fabulous photographic exhibition showing in our second gallery space. It features the wonderful world of Fungai, a rare large-scale photographic exhibition consisting of 35 images of unusual fungi in the Newcastle region by Greg Heathcote.

Davson ~ a long journey featured a collection of 22 works on paper by Davson (created 1972 - 1994). These drawings, original prints,and other works on paper were kindly loaned from the permanent public collection of the Millicent Art Gallery in Millicent, South Australia.

Accompanying the collection were 5 oil on canvas works from the With Gratitude series (1996) and other oil paintings borrowed from various collectors.

Guest Speaker Janice Nitschke, Director of the Millicent Art Gallery in Millicent South Australia addressed the official gallery function for the exhibition on 28 September 2010.

The 22 works on paper include drawings, original silk-screen prints, etchings, mono prints and spatter works from early in the artist's career, as well one woven piece and a preliminary concept drawing. The five paintings from the With Gratitude series were Passing Memories, Traditions, When All Is Quiet, In The Cellar and A Precious Find.

Cameo Collections
Displayed in our second galley was exhibition of selected photographs by Rob West from Wangi Wangi. Accompanying these were featured art works and objects from our Davson Arts Museum permanent collection.

Davson ~ World Leaders & Enlightenment

This was our official opening exhibition.  It was a major retrospective exhibition featuring art by Sharon Davson on loan from many collectors. The exhibiiton used all available exhibition spaces.
